Best Management Practices (BMP)

"Best Management Practices" are state guidelines recommended to use in harvesting and managing timber. Landowner participation is presently voluntary, but highly recommended to sustain sound ecosystem management, maintain ecological diversity, and ensure water quality. BMP compliance is monitored by the Arkansas Forestry Commission via an annual field survey of timberlands with harvest activity and results published. There are criteria related to riparian zones via Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) where certain violations can be fined. BMP adherence should be in all Timber Management and Timber Harvesting contracts (click below links for information):
